The American Vision – A Gold Star Mothers Journey – With Special Guest, Renowned Author & Artist – Jeanne Weaver

By TLB Contributing Author & TLBTV Show Host: Bill Muckler

Gold Star Mother Jeanne Weaver received a BA from Florida Atlantic University where she studied art and speech communications. She studied oil painting for three years under the direction of realist artist, James Warrick Jones, and has worked as a volunteer at the Charles H. Taylor Art Center, Hampton, Virginia. She created curriculum and taught art enrichment classes in the United States and overseas. Jeanne has sat on the Board of Directors of Blue Skies Fine Art Gallery of which she had part ownership.

Jeanne now paints on commission at her home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She serves as a Vestry member of St. David’s by the Sea Episcopal Church and has created a written and visual timeline of the history of the church which is permanently installed in the Narthex of the Church.

United States Foreign Service

Jeanne traveled from 1976 through 2002 while raising four children overseas with her husband Donn, a foreign service officer with the U. S. State Department. She has lived in five African and two Eastern European countries. She has integrated her interests in the humanities, communication and art history with her life overseas, always looking for opportunities to explore new and different cultures and art in the countries where she lived. Her experiences molded her artistic enthusiasm.

In 1978, Jeanne found the perfect career niche within her overseas life. In this career she could study about, and aid, other Americans to understand the cultures in which they were living while at the same time work to keep ties with the United States. One Ambassador said she was the morale officer at the Embassy. Jeanne developed a career with the U.S. State Department, working within the Office of Personnel as a Community Liaison Officer. She received numerous awards including two Meritorious Honor Awards, and a Superior Honor Award. In 2001, Jeanne received the Foreign Service Association Worldwide M. Juanita Guess Award for outstanding dedication, energy and imagination in assisting the families of Americans at an overseas post. In addition, she served as editor-in-chief of a weekly ten-page newsletter; Director of an American International pre-school; and events photographer to an Ambassador.

Losing Todd: A Mother’s Journey: Finding Peace in My Heart

After Army 1st Lt. Todd William Weaver was killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan on September 9, 2010, Jeanne turned to her God-given talent to navigate her new state of being. She created a series of twenty-one oil paintings, Losing Todd: A Mother’s Journey in 2011. The paintings have been broadly exhibited. The paintings were produced into a book in 2015 by the same name with essays by Jeanne and others to include the former Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates. The book was published by the Muscarelle Museum of Art and The College of William and Mary. On May 12, 2017, she was presented the distinguished Honorary Alumni Award from the College of William and Mary for her accomplishments in creating a lasting legacy in memory of her son for the college and our country.

The Four Chaplains

In 2012 and 2015, Jeanne was commissioned (accepted gratis) to create the designs for two bronze monuments, permanently installed in the Monument Plaza at the Brevard Veterans Center and Plaza on Merritt Island, Florida. The monuments honor all those who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In 2018, Jeanne designed the Four Chaplains Monument of those who perished on the USAT Dorchester on February 3, 1943 in the North Atlantic, for the Chaplains of the Brevard Veterans Center on Merritt Island. This monument was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018.

Neither the Weavers, nor the Muscarelle Museum of Art and The College of William and Mary, receive compensation or profits from the book. Jeanne’s biography, exhibits and works can be found on her web-page (link below show).

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … TLB
