By TLB Media Director & RSR Show Host: Rebecca L. Mahan
Guest Linda Diane Wattley is a proud veteran of the United States Army who born in Akron, Ohio and attended the University of Akron majoring in Psychology. Linda, a bubbly and energetic guest, talks about how she became an author after learning she had the gift to pen. This gift was discovered while she attended the U of A during a writing course. This discovery gave her the confidence she needed to submit her first work of art – poetry. Her poem, “I Wish,”appeared in the “Poetry Gem” of the American Poets Society. Later, she wrote her own religious/philosophical column in the “Frost Illustrated Newspaper” in Fort Wayne, Indiana, titled “The Best Will Show Themselves,”where she shared her personal perspectives of spiritual insights and covered current social and religious events in her community. Her column ran for over 12 years.
God awakened her to an extremely important message to share with the world. The message is that we must become more conscious of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Who better to write on PTSD but none other than an Army Veteran, college psychology major, and survivor of childhood sexual abuse? Her work “Soldier with a Backpack” and “Living and Dying Simultaneously,” allowed Linda to become a nominee for the “Best in Non-fiction” during the African American Literary Awards Show in 2016.
You will find on this episode, that her work continues to be a voice for victims of every walk of life. We discuss the various victims of PTSD, such as, soldiers and other victims. She is quite candid in our conversation, sharing details that many others will not.
Linda also reflects on a major challenge some writers face when trying to get their work published. That challenge is of those who plagiarize and take another author’s work and pass it off as their own. This to Linda, however, has only been a set back. It has not caused her to give up. She has a mission. Her story, her personality, her insight, her experience… is an inspiration to the audience and these highlights only name a few.
In addition to her writing and candid interviews, she is a registered member and speaker of “RAINN,” an organization supporting and encouraging victims of sexual assault. Linda has appeared as a contributing writer for several online magazines to include: “Faith Writers”, “The Wright Side of Me Productions”, “The Blessed Room”, “Real Life Real Faith Magazine” and “The Cheers” providing inspirational and thought-provoking messages to her readers. She is also a contributing author of the anthologies: “The Triumph of My Soul” edited by Elissa Gabriel, “This Far by Faith” with Vanessa Miller as editor, and “Testify: The Praise Literary Collection Testimonials” complied by Angel M. Barrino.
The current and very important message she shares pertains to our souls. “The Love and Redemption Series.” This is a trilogy taking readers on a soulful journey of discovering self from the inside out. This is a work of spiritual and mental stimulation and renewal, a must to move forward.
