There are many out there who don’t vote, don’t want to be involved in politics, and would rather just go with the flow. It is often said, if you don’t vote, you have no right to complain. If you don’t want to get involved in politics because you are not a politician, at least know about and support the ones who are going to be the best representation of your morals and your views and let them do the plowing, planting, sowing, growing of the seeds you want to see nurtured in your community.
I have said it many times and I am going to continue to say it… “Get involved locally.” This is where you have the most impact and move towards getting the change you want or even keeping things the way you want.
You don’t have to run in an election to get involved, but you can attend your council meetings. Get to personally know who is running and who is in office. Don’t read about them; go meet them. Post a yard sign. Volunteer on a campaign. There are many things you can do, but whatever you do – go VOTE!
Bell County, Texas is holding elections, along with many other states and counties across the nation. Early voting in Bell County, Texas runs through March 6, 2018.
Spotlight guest on this episode is CJ Grisham. CJ is making his run for Texas State Representative House District 55. He is doing all of the above and having been a leader, he plans to continue to lead for Texans.
CJ says …
“Twenty years ago, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Today, I’m taking a new oath to the state of Texas. Too often our legislators forget that their purpose is to support and defend our liberties, not legislate them away.”

CJ is a retired U.S. Army First Sergeant who was counterintelligence. His specialties were as a Spanish linguist and Signal Intelligence Voice Interceptor. He is a distinguished combat veteran, having been awarded a Bronze Star with Valor in Iraq. His wartime service includes Iraq, Fallujah, and Afghanistan.
CJ was born in Temple, Texas but spent most of his life traveling the world as a Navy dependent. During his summers, he returned to Temple to work on his grandparents’ farm. He is the grandson of a World War II bombardier and belly gunner over Germany and the son of a Vietnam War-era anti-submarine warfare specialist. CJ’s service to this country is well-rooted in the examples and values passed down through generations. this country is well-rooted in the examples and values passed down through his grandparents’ farm. CJ serves as his church’s finance clerk and as a Sunday school teacher. He is an unapologetic Christian who is guided in everything he does by a caring and attentive Holy Spirit with scripture as his road-map and that only through Christ’s atoning sacrifice can man be saved.
After retiring in 2015, CJ was accepted to Texas A&M University Central Texas where he will graduate with a degree in History and a minor in Political Science in the Spring of 2018. He was inducted into several Honors Societies for his scholastic achievements, including Phi Theta Kappa, National Honor Society, and the Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, in which he currently serves as the TAMUCT chapter president.
After 20 years of honorable service to his country, CJ wants to continue his service to Texans. He is heavily involved in politics. He is as an advocate and activist on topics ranging from veterans’ issues to pro-life to gun rights to vaccine choice.
While serving, he worked closely with Army Vice Chief of Staff General Pete Chiarelli in his effort to remove the stigma of PTSD. He has continued his dedication in this endeavor and offers up immediate support to soldiers, veterans, law enforcement officers, rape victims, and others who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He firmly believes, lives matter.
CJ started blogging at one point to address things that needed to be heard. His blog A SOLDIERS PERSPECTIVE was read by President George W. Bush and resulted in an invitation to the Oval Office in 2007, with President Bush presenting him with a presidential coin.
CJ has a record of standing up for conservative values. He fought to return gun rights to Texans who had been stripped dating back to 1876. His efforts legalized open carry and campus carry, as well as, a cost reduction of license to carry. There is so much more to learn about and from CJ.
