Firearm-use and ownership is not a gift granted by the government; the concept of self-protection is an unalienable right as old as the beginning of time.

Self-protection predates even governments,” said Alan J. Chwick, gun rights author and historian. “As groups came together in history thousands of years ago for mutual benefit, they began to barter.” The concept of self-protection became necessary as groups would encounter looters, robbers and plunderers, he said.

The concept of self-defense is also called self-preservation,” he added. “My gun doesn’t only protect me, it gives me the ability to protect 100 people around me as well.” He said the framers of the Constitution, who fought tyranny from British rule, were keenly aware that our right to self defense is key to preserving freedom.

Chwick, who is the retiring Managing Coach of the Freeport NY Junior Marksmanship Club, said that the writing of the Second Amendment is very clear.

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The last part of the sentence is the actual right the first part is the predicate,” said Chwick. “A militia was nothing more than communities of people coming together for the common good – for local protection.”

Attempting to eliminate our God-given right to self-defense, he said is wrong and self-defeating. “I have been a gun person since the day I was born – I fell out of the crib and the guns were already there.”

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … TLB
