The American Vision – Flags for Forgotten Soldiers – With Guest, Gold Star Mother & Veterans Advocate – Robin Thomas
Robin Thomas is a Gold Star Mother, having lost her youngest son to the PTSD related Veteran Suicide Epidemic. Her Son, US Army E-4 Terrance (Terry) Jeffery O’Hearn, served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Terry took his own life within three years of being diagnosed with Severe PTSD. Shortly after Terry’s death, Robin moved to Brevard County, Florida to take a position at Patrick AFB and has since become an Advocate for Veterans with PTSD/Mental Health Issues.
United States Air Force Veteran
Robin Thomas is an USAF Veteran herself having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant E5 while on active duty from April 1979 through August 1986 when she received an Honorable Discharge. While on active duty she served as an Armament Systems Specialist 46250 at Davis Monthan AFB in Arizona; Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany; and Patrick AFB in Florida. Robin spent 2 years on reserve duty at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida.
Still Serving at Patrick Air Force Base
Robin earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. She is currently working at Patrick AFB with the 45th Space Wing in the 45th Civil Engineering Squadron as a Resource Efficiency Manager (REM). Robin’s expertise is reducing the energy and utility costs while strengthening and providing resiliency to the utility infrastructure. Her background in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Controls, Fire Alarm and Security Controls and Energy Management provides her a complete understanding of commercial buildings operations and processes. She has worked in the service, maintenance and repair, contracting and project management disciplines during her 25-plus year career.
Flags for Forgotten Soldiers
Robin has partnered with Flags for Forgotten Soldiers and brought the first Florida based Flags For Forgotten Soldiers Display to the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center in November 2017 and again in May-June 2018 in support of PTSD Awareness month.
These powerful flag displays bring awareness to the public that 660 Veterans take their lives each month.
Flags For Forgotten Soldiers Postcards
Robin has started a self-funded post card campaign along with a GoFundMe to have registered voters reach out to their elected officials to let them know they vote and they are concerned about Veteran Issues. Robin plans to make this a nationwide project by enlisting the VFW’s membership to help.
Family Life is Important
When not working, or being a veteran’s advocate, Robin enjoys her family, traveling, good food and good company. She currently volunteers and trains at the Disabled Veterans of America (DAV) Post 123 in Merritt Island, Florida to become a Veterans Service Officer. Veterans Service Officers are trained to help veterans understand and apply for any Veterans Administration benefits the veteran may be entitled to including: compensation, education, vocational rehabilitation and employment, home loans, life insurance, pension, health care, and burial benefits. She will be a fully certified VSO in January 2019.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … TLB
