Rick on Life: The Fatherless Pandemic (Part I)

With your Host: Rick Amitin
We live in a fatherless world. It’s more than biology – it’s spiritual. I wrote the novel, If Only I Had A Dad: Finding Freedom From Fatherlessness with three clear objectives in mind;
1. I wanted to heal my own life and understand that healing.
2. I wanted to clear a path for my grandson who would face his own fatherlessness.
3. I want to share my discoveries with people who face their own brand of fatherlessness.
Fatherlessness can result from father abandonment, a father who is present but unavailable, or a father who abuses mentally, physically, or sexually.
I had my father and three stepfathers by the time I was nine. My 3rd stepfather was a raving lunatic. He was irresponsible, lazy, violent, beat my mother, and scared me and my siblings half to death. I tried to make a father out of him but, it was useless. He was everything I hated, resented, and didn’t want to be.
When he knocked me unconscious at fifteen I left…only looking back to remind myself to keep going. Before I escaped I picked up my own version of festering anger. I was confused and would become angrier over time. I would later learn that my foundation of shame would have far-reaching levels of dysfunction.
I learned how to parent myself in order to mature into wholeness!
