Rick On Life – Intentional Partnerships – Ricks Guest: Certified Life Coach, Author, Speaker & Trainer – Julie Ford

Hosted by: Rick Amitin

Somewhere between “it is what it is” and “everything happens for a reason” lies the truth of intention. For those who believe in luck as a supreme strategy I recommend a rabbit’s foot…in every pocket. For those who believe relationships are made in heaven I ask the question; what good are they here on Earth?

After 36 years of marriage I’m more than qualified to talk out loud and, secure enough to not worry about being overheard. In this interview with Julie Ford we breakdown fantasy into bite-sized spoonfuls of reality. We share enough success and failure between us to hold your attention for at least a few minutes. No, really. We actually care about other people.

Julie Ford is a certified life coach, author, speaker, and trainer. With one-on-one and group coaching, she helps her clients define what matters most in their lives, and to realize what is and isn’t working. Julie speaks to groups and leads live and virtual classes on numerous topics related to creating values-based habits, prioritization, and keeping joy and passion in one’s work, parenting, and life. She specializes in helping organizations support their high performing parents through transitions. By teaching working parents how to keep their chaos level under “code yellow,” organizations increase engagement, effectiveness and retention. Additionally, parents can do the important work of raising the next generation without blowing into a flaming “code red.

There is a secret for each of us to realize; two halves don’t make a whole in relationships. It takes whole people to succeed in love, parenting, and business relationships. The road of life is littered with the pieces of relationships that fell apart because someone failed to pay attention…was not intentional!!!

If you don’t define your life somebody else will. And, they most likely will design your life too small. If you want to have the most influence on your kids believe me, you had better be intentional. I don’t recommend doing “life” with good intentions…I suggest doing life on purpose, intentionally, with expectation clearly established. Oh, by-the-way, it’s a really good idea to put more into your marriage…pre-marriage than into your wedding.

We all have strengths and weaknesses. Just because we don’t have a voice worthy of Dick Clark’s Top 40 doesn’t mean we aren’t whole. Relationships thrive when whole people come together to create something more, together, than they can do on their own. We don’t surround ourselves with people who can do what we can’t to make us whole. It’s only when we are whole that we are safe to surround ourselves with people who can do what we can’t do without insecurity and competition.

Being whole also doesn’t mean you know everything. In fact, it means that you are committed to continuing to learn and grow. The only thing constant is change. Intention explains where we are, where we’re going, and what we will leave behind. If I can be only one thing in life I have decided that the best I can be is intentional.
