Female rape survivor told In the Crosshairs that guns are the safest way for women to protect themselves against would-be perpetrators and harm doers.
“My whole world with firearms was what I saw in the movies and Hollywood,”
… said Shayna Lopez-Rivas, who in 2014 was a survivor of campus rape.
“If I had my Glock on me, I would have never been raped.”
On the day she was attacked, Lopez-Rivas, a Criminology graduate from Florida State University, said she had pepper spray to defend herself and ran for the blue safety lights that alerted police, but that was not enough.
“The criminal that attacked me was faster, stronger, and threatened me with a knife.”
By August 2015, she said she commenced a more proactive approach to self defense to include training with firearms, and a more proactive approach to educating the public on Second Amendment rights.
“I have been fighting for campus carry in Florida, as well as Second Amendment rights nationwide.”
Lopez-Rivas said it is not always easy sharing her story, but she knows her efforts can help other women stay safe.
“I know fighting for real women’s empowerment and equality begins with ensuring women have the best choices available to protect themselves.”

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … TLB
